This live online course explores the practical applications of the role and responsibilities of the Engineer to the Contract and the Engineer’s Representative under NZS 3910:2013 Conditions of Contract for building and civil engineering works.
Description
This course follows on from the NZS 3910:2013 introductory course, providing practical guidance in the administration of construction contracts from the perspective of the Engineer to the Contract. It covers issuing instructions and variations, decision-making, reviewing, approving or rejecting work and claims, issuing certificates and involvement in disputes.
All industry participants who administer or use the NZS 3910 conditions of contract and work with the Engineer to the Contract will find this course relevant.
Learning outcomes
Delegates who attend this course will learn:
- the role of Engineer to the Contract and Engineer’s Representative
- issuing instructions and making decisions under the contract
- certifying progress payments and final payments
- determining the Contractor’s entitlement to and valuing of Variations
- time for completion, delays and extensions of time, certifying practical and final completion
- dealing with disputes and differences

If you have knowledge of and experience in NZS 3910, or you’ve attended the one-day NZS 3910:2013 introductory course, this course is the next step for engineers, contractors, subcontractors, project managers, architects, quantity surveyors and owners’ representatives.
Course Format
This workshop is an on-line full-day course, with brief worked examples, and opportunities for questions during and at the end of the course. Course material will be sent out to participants ahead of the workshop.
The workshop will have a short break hourly, and a longer lunch break.
Presenter Information
Peter Degerholm is a Registered Quantity Surveyor, arbitrator, mediator and adjudicator in construction disputes and is an authority on the Construction Contracts Act 2002. He was a member of the Standards New Zealand review committees for NZS 3910 and the related 3915, 3916 and 3917 standards.
