NZS 3910:2013 - An Introduction - Online

An introduction or refresher to NZS 3910:2013 Conditions of Contract for building and civil engineering works. This online course covers the structure of NZS 3910, procurement considerations, and explores the roles and responsibilities of the Engineer to the Contract, Engineer’s Representative, Principal and Contractor.

Description

NZS 3910 is the most commonly used form of conditions of contract for non-residential construction work in New Zealand.

This online course examines NZS 3910 from the perspective of the Engineer to the Contract and Engineer’s Representative, who must perform a complex “dual role” as adviser to and representative of the Principal, in addition to making decisions independently and impartially under the contract.

Learning Outcomes

Delegates will gain an understanding of:

  • NZS 3910 and how it may be used to greatest effect
  • the principles of tendering, acceptance and documentation of construction contracts under NZS 3910
  • the key elements and features of NZS 3910:2013 general and the use of special conditions
  • the role of the Engineer to the Contract, and how certain Engineer duties may be effectively performed by an Engineer’s Representative
  • the role and responsibilities of the Principal and the Contractor
  • the relationship between NZS 3910 and the Construction Contracts Act 2002

Peter is a Registered Quantity Surveyor, arbitrator, mediator and adjudicator in construction disputes and is an authority on the Construction Contracts Act 2002. He was a member of the Standards New Zealand review committees for NZS 3910 and the related 3915, 3916 and 3917 standards.
