Leading Project Management for Engineers
This course introduces concepts that go beyond the usual operational planning and control of a project. Knowledge is needed about leadership and the “softer” albeit critical aspects of project management that emerge when the practitioner moves to a more senior or comprehensive project management role.
Description
We often tend to focus most of our management energy on project management processes. However, it is people who do the work and make these processes happen, or sometimes not happen.
Those who have responsibility for managing or leading projects at a more senior level or in large projects will find that there is definite need to understand the “softer” issues that relate to leading and managing the people involved, as much as managing the technicalities of the project itself.
Learning outcomes
The learning outcomes of this course are to:

appreciate the qualities needed to fulfill the leadership functions of project management; this includes the mandate of the project manager

be aware of issues relating to forming a project team, team dynamics as well as leading the team

understand the main points of communication in project management and be aware of the concept of managing agreement

be aware of and understand of the process of delegating work as well as situational leadership styles
-
gain some pointers on managing time as well as meetings.

More senior engineers, project managers, consultants, contractors, principals (private and public sector) – anyone who has to manage people who execute projects, whether large or small.
