This live online course will introduce the general concepts for retention systems for basement construction (e.g. sheet piles, secant piles, diaphragm wall, lateral support systems, etc.). This course is a slightly reduced version of the face-to-face course ‘Basements & ground retention systems’.

Risk is a universal phenomenon that affects all people in all activities that they may undertake. This course introduces a structured approach for the identification, planning, treatment and management of risk in an engineering context. Delegates will learn a structured approach to the risk management process.

The course will introduce the fundamental principles and some well-established methods of pile design and analysis of single piles and some of them can be applied without the use of complex computer software. The course content will cover the most relevant aspects of pile design for single piles (e.g. axial, lateral, down drag, rock sockets). We will also discuss some practical examples and case studies to demonstrate the ‘real world’ applications of the course content.

This course introduces the general concepts and principles of the design and the construction of gravity retaining walls such as cantilevered reinforced concrete walls, block walls and crib walls.

This course is designed to provide emerging consulting engineers and project managers with tools and strategies to successfully deal with difficult and unexpected situations on site (please note there are face to face and online options).
