Sustainability has become a critical part of the considerations for any built environment project and one that is the responsibility for all practitioners to interpret and incorporate effectively into their work.

This workshop will provide a broad overview of the key sustainability drivers and issues including some practical ways in which the built environment community is integrating sustainability into their work.

Sessions will include:

  • Exploring the current understanding of sustainability and what it means in the built environment context.
  • Global and local sustainability issues impacting the NZ built environment
  • Tools, frameworks and ways of working that enable the integration of sustainability considerations into built environment projects

Delegates who attend this course will gain:

  • An enhanced understanding of the global and local trends and drivers around sustainability and how these relate to the built environment
  • Tools to start embedding sustainability into their projects and roles
  • Mechanisms to effectively communicate the value and relevance of sustainability within built environment projects

Target Audience:

The Engineering New Zealand Code of Ethics requires all engineers to have regard to the need for sustainable management of the environment. This course is targeted at emerging professionals and for those who have recognised they need to have a broader and more up to date understanding of sustainability within their professional practice. We encourage Engineeers, planners, urban designers, architects and other built environment practitioners to attend.
